2016 Kin Canada Bursaries to Assist Students

Our Founder Hal RogersThe Calgary Kinsmen are pleased to offer local students at the post-secondary level, to apply for a Kin Canada Bursary.

Students who are, or will be, attending a recognized post-secondary institution during the 2016-2017 school year, are encouraged to apply for the $1,000 bursary. Applications must be post marked Feb. 1, 2016. More information on making your application successful can be found at this link: Kin Canada Bursary

Bursaries are awarded to students based on financial need, community and school involvement, and knowledge of Kin Canada. Successful applicants will be notified by June 2012. Kin Canada established the Kin Canada Bursaries, a program of the Hal Rogers Endowment Fund, in memory of Hal Rogers, the Association's founder. Rogers passed away in September 1994 at the age of 95. Its purpose is to promote, encourage and sponsor educational programs and activities.

Throughout his life, Hal Rogers believed in the value of education. In his own words, "providing and promoting the finest and most effective education possible for our young people" was a noble endeavor.

Since the Bursaries were established in 1994, more than half a million dollars have been awarded to students pursuing their post-secondary education. The bursaries are supported each year by the fundraising efforts of Kinsmen, Kinette and Kin Clubs across the country.

Kin Canada is the Association of Kinsmen, Kinette and Kin clubs. In hundreds of communities across Canada, more than 7,000 dedicated volunteers make up this dynamic, all-Canadian service organization. Through their promotion of service, fellowship, positive values and national pride, Kin members work tirelessly to make their communities and country a better place to live. Run for L'Arche

This year's run in support of L'Arche Calgary was held on March 21. The Kinmen Club of Calgary supported the event in several ways. Will and his family assisted with marshalling the runners. Eric, Duncan, Ed and wife Lynne, Mark and others participated in the 5 mile run. The weather was great, it was a fun event and more than $50,000 was raised overall for L'Arche Calgary

EASTER SEALS CAMP HORIZON 2014 FALL WORK PARTY

A team of Kinsmen and family members braved the cold weather and pitched in their skill to build a (10 x 3) metre deck and a (1.5 x 23) metre wheel chair ramp at Easter Seals Camp Horizon Southwest of Bragg Creek September 27-28, 2014. The purpose was to build a structure that would allow wheel chair campers safe access to the Camp Horizon's Archery Range. Wheelchair campers can now access the archery range without any assistance, and can easily move about on the new Archery deck without bumping into each other. We hope that this deck and wheelchair ramp can be enjoyed by many campers for many years to come.

Round Up Band Marches into 2015 with New Truck

Calgary Kinsmen Present a $25,000 cheque to Calgary round up Band

Just prior to  last years Stampede  The Calgary Round Up Band knew their old truck was on its last legs. The logistics of moving instruments, equipment and 12-15 year old performers from practice to performance is a major  achievement in itself. Nursing an aging truck through another year would be crazy.

The Band which was started in 1956 by The Calgary Police Service has become one of the finest bands of it's kind in Canada and has entertained millions of people all over the world. Barry Hensch  President of the Calgary Round Up Band association didn't Mark Time but marched straight to his Kinsmen friends for help.

The Kinsmen were certanly sympathetic, coordinating hundreds of volunteers has been the hallmark of the Calgary club for the last 90 years. A special vote was set-up and the Calgary club said yes to the 2015 capital request. These funds come through the sale of tickets on the Kinsmen

Th Calgary Round up Band

Wheels prizes at The Calgary Stampede Lotteries. Both the Kinsmen and The Round Up Band would like to thank the Kinsmen wheels volunteers for their hard work in raising this money to make thier truck dreams come true.
